Charlie Redd Memorial Scholarship

Application and Rules

The rules and regulations of the APWU of Florida Scholarship Program are as follows:

1. Applicants must be the child, stepchild, or one under the guardianship of an active member of the APWU of Florida, American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO.

2. Applicant’s parent or guardian must be a member in good standing for a least one (1) year immediately preceding application deadline, or must have been a member for one (1) year immediately preceding death.

3. Applicants must be accepted into, or attending, an accredited college, university, or technical school.

4. Application for a scholarship must be made on an official application form. It must be

submitted via certified mail, and postmarked by July 15, 2015.

5. The responsibility for submitting an application to the scholarship program rest solely with the applicant.

6. The scholarship program will provide two (2) winners annually. Alternates will be selected in the event of disqualification or rejection of the award. The winners will be selected with a drawing by the Executive Board during the biennial State Convention years, and selected during the Fall Training Seminar in non-convention years by the Executive Board.

7. The Secretary-Treasurer shall notify the scholarship winners in writing advising them of their responsibilities, prior to receipt of the funds.

8. The scholarships are designated for use for tuition, books, room and board, will be in the amount of $1000.00, and shall be disbursed within thirty (30) days after the Secretary-Treasurer receives the required information each year into a trust account at the institution where the awardee has been approved for final enrollment. The awardee is responsible for setting up the trust account at the institution they will be attending or the awardee shall be reimbursed for vouched expenses for tuition, books, and room and board.

9. In the event of the applicant’s failure to comply with the rules stated (within 30 days of being notified), he or she shall be disqualified from all rights and benefits of the scholarship program.

10. Should the scholarship fund award program be discontinued for any reason, any funds remaining in the scholarship fund account will be transferred to the general fund. The APWU of Florida Scholarship Fund is recognized as an employee welfare benefit fund as defined in the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 as amended, ERISA. Activities of the union scholarship fund shall be reported on the annual report form LM, pursuant to the LMRDA, and regulations there under.

This Application must be sent via Certified Mail, and be postmarked by July 15, 2015 to the following address:
